This is in "One Look", for a start, I know it was a wonderful effort on your parts, this Wikification of London, but as this is now making its rounds in various search-engines and will be seen world-wide, I can't quite get my head round this, Harlesden being near Purley and Coulsdon. What do you think, you lovely people? :-) --Dieter Simon 02:02 Mar 15, 2003 (UTC)

The article appears interested in discussing demographics of crime. The subject matter is simply a place. I am moving the superfluous information here to be included at a later date if a balance of demographic information is intended.

To get a more thorough history of Harlesden (and Brent) check out: http://www.brent-heritage.co.uk/harlesden.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.28.80.203 (talk) 21:49, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Superfluous Info

[edit]

Harlesden never suffered the problems of racial tension or rioting like Brixton or Notting Hill. In recent years, however Harlesden been the subject of a documentary, and there has also been a number of infamous drive-by shootings [1]. The area is slowly becoming gentrified [2] but remains somewhat notorious for the high crime rate, one of the highest in the borough. Of particular infamy is the Stonebridge Estate. Most of the houses are Victorian terraces and parking is controlled by parking permits.

The emphasis of crime is ridiculous - the pages on Finchley or Highgate, for instance, don't go on about the crooked accountants and corrupt solicitors who live there!

Infamy? Infamy, they've all got it in for me!

This entry is to suggest removing much of the crime material. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.9.174.88 (talk) 22:50, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Crime

[edit]

The entire Crime section and the introductory "Harlesden is one of London's "crime capitals", with its high crime and murder rates" are unsubstantiated and an unencyclopedic blend of lazy journalists' tags and fragmentary local knowledge or bias. I agree it needs purging unless/until sourced comparative crime statistics are provided. NebY (talk) 11:21, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Harlesden has high crime levels along with it neighbour Stonebridge and to a lesser extent Church End. Along with Brixton, Hackney and Tottenham, Harlesden is a centre of high crime levels, drug gangs and black on black shootings in London. Previously dubbed the 'Murder Capital of Britain' and known for its Yardie gang culture where Jesse Jackson and Prince Charles have both visited the area due to its notoriety. -This paragraph above is old 'Crime' section wording from the article, moved here as archive/for discussion.

Feel free to start a "Crime in Harlesden" article with it, if you wish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.12.28.132 (talk) 00:07, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

LOL@ this article

[edit]

Harlesden is one of the worst areas in London.

why the white washing?

"Harlesden has been praised for its vibrant Caribbean culture"

I have never heard someone from the UK talk about "culture" of any kind when referring to the thuggery that goes on in Harlesden, LOL...

Demographics

[edit]

There is talk in the history section of diaspora to the area of Asian and South American communities but the demographics only mention 66% of the population through the black and white communities. How about a full break down of the demographics of the area, showing the true diversity of Harlesden? AsparagusTips (talk) 08:24, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"unofficially named London's reggae capital."?

[edit]

"unofficially named London's reggae capital." - this claim has no reference. I have found this claim, or similar, a few times on the web but at least some look as if they may just be quotes from this article. This one might be the original claim:

The article Reggae does not mention Harlesden or Brent, though it does mention South London. FrankSier (talk) 15:58, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
