File:USS Texas2.jpg to appear as POTD soon
[edit]Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:USS Texas2.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on July 3, 2010. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2010-07-03. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :) Thanks! howcheng {chat} 23:51, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

New book
[edit]A new illustrated history, dedicated solely to the USS Texas, was published in October 2011 entitled: Old Hoodoo, The Battleship Texas, America's First Battleship, 1895-1911. The work covers the complete history of the Texas from it's conception to disposition. --Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 17:16, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Purported photo of the wreck of the ex-USS Texas
[edit]I am removing references to the wreck of the ex-USS Texas as still being visible, as well as the photo that purportedly shows the ship with its mast poking out of the water as the claims are unsourced and dubious. Newspaper articles about the wreck from the 1950s available on Navsource[1] do not make any mention of the mast being visible, and the ship's hull was blasted away with explosives in the late 50s' to ensure it wouldn't be a navigation hazard. Photos of the wreck from the early 1920s (also available on Navsource[2]) show a hull without any masts visible. I am therefore challenging the accuracy of these statements and removing the material per WP:V and ask that the material not be readded without a good reference to back it up.
