Talk:Tang (fish)

Something doesn't seem to be right in the description of tangs. The article has a picture of a blue tang and says they don't live in the Atlantic, but 30 seconds in google searching for Blue Tang Habitat comes up with a lot claiming they live in the Caribbean.

Hrm...maybe you're mixing up Acanthurus coeruleus (Atlantic Blue Tang) with Paracanthurus hepatus (Regal Blue Tang)? They're two totally different species with similar common names...CarrieOkie86 (talk) 02:03, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Mr Fink, definitely. This Tang article seems to concentrate on Zebrasoma, but Tang is not a description restricted to that genus.

I agree, someone seems to have added "Only this genus of surgeon fish is properly termed "Tang"."...that makes no sense, 'Tang' is not a proper name, so no, not only Zebrasoma is properly termed a tang. It is a generic name for all the fish in the family. -Chris

yep -agree totally.

The article tries to talk about Tangs (zebrasoma sp.) but then starts mentioning non-Z surgeons as if they were tangs - probably due to common confusion... Let's merge the Surgeon and tang articles - there is good info in both and a lot of redundancy.
