Japanese Steampunk

I don't see anything steampunk-ish on those early Ozuka manga, same with Future Boy Conan and Space Battleship Yamato, they would fit better as retrofuturism IMO, the futuristic tech on those works just look old fashioned so they kinda fit on steampunk but then a lot more works should be included in the article Mirad1000 (talk) 12:49, 18 June 2023 (UTC)

I think series can be on here if they are steampunk-ish. I mean, Polygon notes "where Castle in the Sky riffs off a steampunk aesthetic, Conan is all about ’70s retrofuturism, building a vibrant visual language of slick teal spacesuits, tangerine seaplanes, and beeping computer rooms". But, I can agree that more works should be added to the article. Arguably Unicorn: Warriors Eternal falls into the steampunk genre as well: "a 10-episode mini-series...[is] the supernatural steampunk animated action series". Removing archive links?

I don't see any reason to remove archive links like this, they might be useful at some point. Is there a reason, Dhtwiki? —DIYeditor (talk) 09:48, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

They are not useful in causing archiving to happen, and, when added in massive amounts, result in possibly considerably longer download and rendering times. When editors, or IABot (which only adds links in such cases), have determined that the original links have died, then archive links can be useful, although it's preferable to determine why the links have died (possibly due to website reorganization, where the original material exists and can be linked to) and whether better references now exist (e.g. with updated information). Personally I add archival links all the time, as webpages change often, and I'd say its important to keep a static page for people to access when (and if) a link has died. Historyday01 (talk) 13:40, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

About the unreliable sources tag

Dani Cavallaro's publications have been designated as generally unreliable sources in this discussion at the reliable sources noticeboard. Citations to her work can be replaced with more high-quality ones or removed, and the tag can be taken off once complete. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 20:32, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

First section: Alternative history of Victorian era?

Steam engines were in heavy use throughout the entire Victorian era. So no alternative history would be needed. Especially not one where "steam engines are still in use". What is meant by this sentence? Snorkop (talk) 05:42, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Steampunk is not (broadly) a history of the Victorian era. It is instead an alternate timeline after the Victorian era, where Victorian characteristics (hats, steam power, deference to an aristocracy) have stayed in place long past 1900. In which case, "steam engines are still in use" represents a deviation from the conventional history, at least after 1950 or so.

The question of whether Victoria herself is still on the throne has varying answers between yes, no and some sort of Warhammer-like intermediate preservation. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:23, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
