POV
[edit]I thought this article very POV against Portillo. I dispute that FRG would be a right-wing party anywhere with it's rob the rich to give to the poor recipes. Guatemala's right and left wing parties do not at all adhere to international perception of political leanings. While Portillo might have theoretically been a member of a conservative party has been removed because while it is true that Guatemala tends to have a distinct political character I don't believe the author has explained what that character is. I think the outside world would normally see FRG as a left wing party, but that doesn't fit in with the conception of Ríos Montt as having been a right winger. Such an explanation should probably be reserved for the FRG article.
The bit about the murder scandal; I don't think we can call it murder as he was acquited. I think if he is living in a luxurious apartment we can figure for ourselves he is comfortable; POV.
in that country doesn't actually specify which country, and I can't figure out which either , so have removed it. I am doing a fair amount of editing on related articles. --SqueakBox 18:13, Mar 15, 2005 (UTC)
Now I have organised it it looks more POV than ever. The only thing it says about his presidency is the accusation against him. --SqueakBox 23:07, Mar 15, 2005 (UTC)
Shootings in Mexico
[edit]The article seems to contain a contradiction. At one point it says that he was acquitted of the murder charges in Mexico because it was a case of self-defense. Later, in the discussion of his second run for President, it says that he fled Mexico after the murder. My recollection was that he fled and that the statute of limitations ran out (Mexico has a statute of limitation for murder). Need to clear this up. Notmyrealname 17:18, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- I think I cleared this up now. [1] It's still unclear whether he fled the country and what the basis was for the claims that he shot unarmed people in a "bar brawl." But it is sourced in any case. Notmyrealname 18:32, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Family Life
[edit]If possible someone should add more about his private/family life like if he has a wife and children, this information might be on other language pages. To start his wife's name is evelyn morataya and she was a primary school teacher. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.208.30.111 (talk) 05:47, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
