Hi there, I understand your reasons for changing the name, but the fact is, the name "Parque Nacional de Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici" (generic in Spanish, specific in Catalan) is used, by the Spanish government among others. [1] [2] - Montréalais 01:17, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Used by the Spanish government in texts in Spanish. But this isn't the Spanish wikipedia.
You have established that the Spanish name is Parque..., but not that the Catalan name is too. That site has links at the top to change language, but unfortunately they don't work. If they did, the Catalan version would be Parc....
When writing in English, we have a choice between translating into English or using the local name. The local name in this case is surely Catalan, not Spanish, although Spanish of course has its validity too. Do you have something against Catalan? — Chameleon My page/My talk 16:43, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)
No. I was replying to Llull's notion that the generic of the park's name should definitely be in Catalan because the specific is. I could see any of the three, though with a slight preference for the Spanish specific, as it is a national park run by the national government. I think the current text is a good compromise for the present (no generic in the name at all, English-language referent in lower case at the end). - Montréalais
Well, who decided that this is a park was the Generalitat and no the Spanish Government. They chose the name and you know that the Generalitat use the national word in some uses that the Spanish Goverment use the regional one. I think that the better will be finish the discussion using the English version name. Then the Spanish and Catalan form can redirect to the English one. Llull 06:58, 8 Jul 2004 (UTC)
