- I was neutral about this issue believing "he/she who came first got the naming convention" and that this was a British English naming convention. I'm in favor of Medical Specialties from a point of disambiguation. Perhaps a point to Specialisms? No I feel rather strongly in favor of Medical Specialties. DrGnu 03:00, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

- Vote:YES for renaming. I agree with the above. "Specialisms of..." just sounds awkward. Also my dictionary (American English) says that specialism is "devotion or restriction to a particular pursuit, branch of study, etc." so using that definition, the word is used inappropriately. I'm unsure if the meaning is different in British English. I agree with renaming to Medical specialties, which also keeps it in parallel with the other categories named "Medical ___" Brim 00:29, Jan 26, 2005 (UTC)
- I looked it up, and it turns out specialism and specialty are synonymous. Specialty is much more common on Google (especially in the phrase "medical specialty"). However, specialism sounds very odd indeed to American ears, whereas apparently specialty is comprehensible in British English (see [1]).
