Natalbany is a census-designated place (CDP) in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,739 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Hammond MSA.
Etymology
[edit]The community is named after the nearby Natalbany River. It is speculated that the name of the river is derived from the Choctaw words nita meaning bear and abani which means "to cook over a fire" in the Choctaw language.[3]
Geography
[edit]According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.5 square miles (12 km2), of which 4.4 square miles (11 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (1.56%) is water (including Ponchatoula Creek).
