Pronounciation
[edit]Tamale, located in Ghana, is pronounced "toh-moh-lee." Many people often pronounce it as it looks, ie. the tamale pepper. The pepper pronunciation, however, is incorrect.
- Thanks. Does the last syllable rhyme with 'fee' or with 'spray' (or with something else)? — mark ✎ 23:37, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)
The last syllable rhymes with 'meh'. I lived in Tamale for more than five years. I remember its name being pronounced "TAH-mah-leh" or "TA-ma-le". — Michael 12:00, 13 June 2005 (UTC)
- Akpé ná wò! That makes ['tamalɛ] in IPA. I've added it to the article. — mark ✎ 13:29, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Every year I spend the European winters in Tamale among Dagombas and other locals and hear nothing but "Tah-mah-lay" with the stress on the first syllable. A Frenchman would write Tamalé for what he hears. DrMennoWolters (talk) 19:42, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
- I recently came back from Tamale and I can confirm that the pronunciation is "TAH-mah-leh" or "TA-ma-le". Failtier (talk) 13:26, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
"Most Tamale residents are moderate followers of Islam"
[edit]can we also get information about which Christian or Judaist city/town/village/region residents are "Moderate" and which are savages? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.234.194.190 (talk) 14:06, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
Transport out of town
[edit]Mostly there are "tro-tro" types of buses (old Benz buses) and the following bus companies
- MetroMass (orange buses)
- STC (State Transport Company)
- VIP
- Imperial
- OA
The "Bus_rapid_transit" picture does not show a typical bus. The number plate has "GT" which belongs to the "Greater Accra Region". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Ghana The picture should be replaced with a typical one.

Population size wrong
[edit]The currently indicated population size of 950,000 neither matches with what is indicated in the source nor with the figures retrieved from other sources. According to macrotrends.net, "The current metro area population of Tamale in 2024 is 758,000, a 3.84% increase from 2023." The official website of the Tamale Metro Assembly, on the other hand, writes "The population of Tamale Metropolis, according to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, is 374,744 (i.e. Tamale Central sub-district council 127,978 and Tamale South sub-district council 246,766) representing 16.2 percent of the region’s population."
Accordingly, the current figures of 950,000 should be corrected to 374,744 in order to match the official numbers and what's indicated elsewhere (such as here on the German Wikipedia page of Tamale). Failtier (talk) 13:38, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
Temperature data
[edit]I just aligned the temperature data to the provided (first) source. In my edit summary, I said I didn't know where the mean temps came from, but I now see that is from the second source, which is older data. The mean temps in the table match that source.
